Meridian GIS privacy.

Meridian is built offline-first. Your spatial data, including projects, layers, geometry, attributes, notes, and layouts, is created and stored on your device unless you choose to share it or connect to an outside service. Meridian does not receive this data, and the app works without an account.

How Meridian handles your data

• Accounts are optional elsewhere, not required here. You can use Meridian without signing in.
• You choose where projects live. Keep them on your device or save, export, and back them up to locations such as your own iCloud Drive or Files folders.
• The app is free of advertising trackers. Meridian does not include third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking SDKs.
• Your information is not for sale. We do not sell or rent personal information.

Information the website collects

This marketing website collects only what's needed to operate it:

• Standard server logs. Like any website, our host may record basic technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. Your light/dark theme choice is stored only in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.

Purchases

Meridian is free to download, with a single optional in-app purchase, Meridian Pro. Apple handles the purchase through the App Store, so we do not see or store your payment details. Your device verifies the purchase against Apple's signed transaction record, which allows Pro to keep working offline.

Location

If you grant Meridian access to your location, it is used on-device to place you on the map, measure in context, and explicitly capture GPS points or vertices. It is not transmitted to us.

Meridian does not request Always access or track location in the background. GPS track recording on iPad runs in the foreground while a recording you started is active. Leaving the app pauses it. Recorded fixes stay in memory until you save the track as an ordinary line feature; discarding a recording removes those fixes.

Photos and attachments

Meridian never asks for photo-library access. Geotagged-photo import and feature attachments both read only the specific images you pick in the system photo picker.

• Geotagged-photo import reads EXIF/GPS metadata from the images you pick to create points. Photos without GPS data are reported and skipped rather than assigned a guessed location. This flow does not copy the images into the project.
• Feature attachments copy the picked image into the project package. Embedded metadata, including the camera's GPS coordinates, is preserved as provenance for the record the photo documents. A .gispad package you share, duplicate, or sync therefore carries those coordinates with it. The Export Inspector reports attachment count and size before you share.
• Attachments are never written into exported GeoJSON, GeoPackage, Shapefile, KML/KMZ, or CSV, and they are removed from the package when you delete them.

Online sources

Basemap tiles, Open Data Library downloads, OGC API Features, WFS, ArcGIS Feature Services, and Data Commons requests contact the provider you choose. Those providers can receive your IP address and the request needed to answer you. Provider credentials, such as API keys or usernames, are stored on your device and are not written into clean exports.
